Blueprint ready for restoring Kamaraj’ss House, Chennai – The Hindu, 2 Sept, 2012

A blueprint is ready for conservation of the Kamaraj Memorial House in Virudhunagar, the place that shaped the formative phase of the leader’s long innings in public life.

Prepared under the auspices of Australia’s cultural and heritage organisation, AusHeritage, over a period of nine months, the blueprint — Conservation Management Plan (CMP) — has several recommendations aimed at enabling restoration of the historic building to the period when Kamaraj lived there — the early 20 century.

Heritage Management Capacity Building for Kinmen Island in Taiwan – Sept 2012

An AusHeritage team have been invited to give a workshop on Kinmen Island and two public lectures in Taipei. The skills learnt by government and private professionals will assist in the development of sound management for the highly significant heritage sites on Kinmen including early fishing villages and 20th century defence sites

Heritage Management Planning in George Town, Penang – May 2012

AusHeritage members Peter Romey (Godden Mackay Logan) and Mary Knaggs (GAO Heritage Group) conducted a 5 day workshop in Penang over two weeks with Malaysian government professionals and private consultants in how to write and use Heritage Management Plans. Two state-owned sites in George Town were used as case studies: Fort Cornwallis and the Prangin Canal.

AusHeritage Deputy Chair Ian Cook Jakarta mission– 27-30 May, 2012

Deputy Chair, Ian Cook met with colleagues from the Culture and Information, Education, Youth and Training and Public Outreach divisions at the ASEAN Secretariat on Jalan Sisingamangaraja on Monday 28 May to discuss progress regarding the forthcoming joint publication ‘A contemporary guide to cultural mapping – an ASEAN-Australia perspective’. Printing will commence shortly and the Guide will be launched both in Southeast Asia and Australia during the second half of 2012. Watch for updates on the AusHeritage website.
