The 2016 AusHeritage lecture and workshop program on Taiwan’s Kinmen Island was held between 21 to 24 June, 2016. Participants came from public sector organisations (both national and local government), universities, the private sector (essentially local SMEs), interested citizens and
students.

Deputy AusHeritage Chair Roger Beeston, as Director of his company RBA Architects + Conservation Consultants, has been invited by the Myanmar Heritage Preservation Limited (MHP)to inspect the most spectacular of the British colonial-era legacy places in Yangon (Rangoon), the Secretariat (or Ministers’ Office) building (1889 – 1905).

AusHeritage member, the Australian National Maritime Museum, established a Maritime Archaeology Research Centre last year and signed a memorandum of understanding with the Rhode Island Marine Archaeology Project (RIMAP) to combine with future projects and potential funding prospects.

Professor Keir Reeves is on the AusHeritage Board of Directors. He currently holds a research chair of at Federation University Australia and the foundation director of the Collaborative Research Centre in Australian History (CRCAH).

AusHeritage member David Huxtable is Director of the Melbourne-based heritage interpretation design company LookEar. David and his team have been involved in the design and development of significant heritage interpretation projects at many National and World Heritage sites.

Mr Vinod Daniel, Chairperson of AusHeritage has been elected to the Board of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) for the period 2016-2019. This was announced at the 31st Ordinary General Assembly of ICOM in Milan, July 9, 2016.

AusHeritage Chairman Vinod Daniel, has taken on the conservation of an Egyptian mummy located in Hyderabad, India. The mummy, known as ‘Nasihu’, dates to 2,500BC.

Following on from Deputy Chair Roger Beeston’s contribution to the restoration of this significant heritage asset, long term Ausheritage member Barrie Cooper was recently in Kolkata assisting with the specific challenges attached to the rising damp and salt induced masonry degradation at the Writers’ Buildings.

Vinod Daniel, Chair of AusHeritage visited Singapore, March 14-16 for meetings with the National Heritage Board (NHB) of Singapore on Museum related projects.

Director-General of Taiwan’s Bureau of Cultural Heritage (BOCH) Gwo-Long Shy and Professor Alex Ya-Ning of China University of Technology (CUTe) will Visit Australia, January 27-30 to examine how World Heritage sites are managed in Australia and identify relevant approaches that may be taken up in Taiwan as they establish World Heritage level assessment and management standards for a variety of significant and diverse sites across Taiwan.
