The Hindu – Second Australian gallery removes stolen Indian artefact from display – 2 April 2014

An article in The Hindu relates that a second Australian art gallery has removed a centuries-old statue from display after a written request from the Indian government to return the artifact. This was after allegations that the statue was stolen from an ancient site in India and sold by an Indian art dealer on trial in Chennai for smuggling antiquities.

Chairman AusHeritage and CEO India Vision Institute Vinod Daniel said the two galleries should return the statues to India calling it “the appropriate thing to do.”
