Buchan is an acclaimed global architecture, interior, masterplanning and experiential design studio with distinction in retail, commercial, mixed-use, residential, hotels and hospitality. We are an agile business drawing on both local knowledge and international experience, with more than 250 staff sharing expertise across Australia, New Zealand and abroad. For more than 130 years, Buchan has made a significant contribution to the built environment with an extensive portfolio that spans boutique, intimate settings through to large-scale buildings and urbanscapes. Buchan’s longevity as a design practice and the tenure of our people has enabled us to build client and community relationships over decades, providing continuity to visionary city shaping and community building projects. We understand heritage architecture is about acknowledging and respecting the culture of the building and aiming to preserve and improve the ongoing performance and lifespan of the form and function. Our work is centred around the architectural quality, the methodology of design and construction, character associated with the original, distinctive period, the cultural significance and of course, the original use be it industrial or religious for example. Harvey Male is Buchan’s Sector Leader for Living and Principal in our Melbourne studio. He specialises in major commercial and civic projects and masterplanning with an urban design focus. Harvey is also a registered Green Star Accredited Professional.
