The Pacific region is recognised for its extraordinary linguistic diversity, yet many of its languages are being endangered due to globalisation, migration, and limited intergenerational transmission. Young people, who form a significant demographic in the Pacific, have a pivotal role in shaping the future of their languages and cultures. Their perspectives are critical for developing effective policies and community initiatives to revitalise and protect linguistic heritage.
At the same time, protecting culture and languages in the rapidly expanding digital environment requires specific attention. Technologies such as artificial intelligence, virtual platforms, and algorithms are advancing faster than society can keep up, and as these technologies increasingly shape global decision-making, it is essential to ensure that Indigenous knowledge systems, language, and rights are respected and integrated.
