Jakarta Workshop grant - 1 Mar 2013

AusHeritage has received a grant from the Australia Indonesia Institute to provide technical masonry repair, conservation and rising damp expertise to the Conservation Institute of the Jakarta City Government at a two day workshop in late May 2013.

The exchange of information and advice will focus on the topic “ Conservation of Brick Masonry: Remedial Treatment on Water Capillary Problem on Brick Masonry” and will use the real example site of the large, old buildings of Museum Bahari (Maritime Museum) in the old Sunda Kelapa harbour area of northern Jakarta.

The site inspection, round table discussions and review of repair options to ‘The Advisory Experts Board on Conservation of Historic Buildings and Environment’ will be in collaboration with a group of approx 20 local architects, conservationist, archaeologists, etc. AusHeritage experts will be Joy Singh, Strategic Heritage Maintenance Manager and Bruce Pettman, Principal Heritage Architect, both from the NSW Government Architect’s Office Heritage Group. Mr Candrian Attahiyyat, Director of Balai Konservasi of the Jakarta City Government has indicated that this is a most timely collaboration.
