Following a number of AusHeritage missions to Vietnam and the involvement of Guy Petherbridge in chairing the UNESCO Memory of the World Programme Workshop on the Preservation of and Access to South East Asia Documentary Heritage, hosted by the Vietnam National Centre for Scientific and Technological Information and Documentation (NACESTID) in cooperation with UNESCO’s Bangkok Office, in Hanoi on 4-8 February 2002, AusHeritage was requested to facilitate an official visit of the State Archives Department of Vietnam to study the preservation technology, design and construction of archival facilities in Australia.

AusHeritage Mission to Central Asia - Nov 2002

Christina Sumner, Curator, International Decorative Arts, Powerhouse Museum and Guy Petherbridge, Cultural Asset Management and Heritage Technologies, undertook another mission to the Central Asian republics of Uzbekistan (including the Autonomous Republic of Karakalpakstan), Kazakhstan and Tajikistan in November 2002 to further advance projects which were in collaboration with UNESCO and national institutions, such as an exhibition in Australia, visits to institutions involved in the UNESCO/AusHeritage HeritageNet Training Program in International Museums Cataloguing Standards, the Living Ceramic Traditions of Central Asia Project and the Karakalpakstan Heritage Resources Development Program.
